After two years of proposals, reviews, and reversals, the Gabba question is finally settled. It'll be demolished after the 2032 Games, and cricket moves permanently to a new sixty thousand seat stadium at Victoria Park, built specifically for the Olympics. Construction starts after an Ashes Test late this year, with completion targeted for 2030.
Two years of uncertainty, resolved into an actual answer. I wrote back in early 2024 about not building an investment thesis on a specific stadium outcome, and I think that held up. The precinct-level infrastructure story never wavered even while the venue details did.
Now that Victoria Park has a concrete plan attached to it, that's the precinct I'm actually paying closer attention to for the rest of the decade, alongside Woolloongabba which keeps its transit investment either way.
