Why I Still Like Brisbane Despite the Noise

Between the stadium back-and-forth, the builder collapses, and eighteen months of the fastest rate hikes in a generation, it would be reasonable to assume Brisbane's had a rough run.

None of it has actually touched the fundamentals, though. Vacancy's still near record lows. Population growth is still among the strongest of any Australian city. Median prices haven't corrected once through any of this noise.

I think the mistake is confusing headline chaos with market chaos. They're different things. The Gabba saga is a political and planning story. The construction insolvency wave is a real problem, but it's a supply-side one that if anything tightens the market further rather than loosening it. None of the noise I've written about this year has actually undermined the case for holding property here. If anything it's reinforced it.
