The Gabba hosts an Ashes Test against England this summer, its last major event before construction begins on demolishing it, following the decision I wrote about back in March. Cricket then moves permanently to the new stadium at Victoria Park once it's built, targeted for 2030.
There's something worth noting for property purposes beyond the sentiment of it. Once demolition and construction actually starts, Woolloongabba goes through several years of active building disruption right in the middle of the precinct, the same precinct I've been tracking since early last year for its transit investment.
Short-term, that disruption is a real cost for anyone holding property immediately adjacent. Medium-term, it's the same infrastructure thesis playing out that I've held the whole way through this saga. Just arriving now, finally, as an actual construction site instead of a plan.
